Let’s face it – the first thing on your mind when you’re looking for a new backpack probably isn’t if it’s waterproof or not. You’re probably thinking of questions more like how much space does it have, is it comfortable to wear, how much does it cost.

Those are all perfectly reasonable questions to ask, until the day when you come out of class or the coffee shop to realize that it’s raining and your umbrella is at home, and the papers in your backpack are very, very important. That’s when you might wish you’d known that Builford backpacks are all waterproof by function of the waxed canvas material they are made from.

It’s not just for rainy days, either. It could be a later of snow that melts when you go inside and seeps into the backpack’s inner compartment, or as innocuous as a wet patch on the floor that leaves the bottom of the bag soaked and your papers unreadable, or worse, your laptop fried. If you’re the outdoorsy type, even more the reason to think about waterproof backpacks. After all, you can’t always be worried about where you set down your bag when you’re just enjoying how beautiful nature is!

We carry our backpacks everywhere. It’s like a trusted friend – you give them your most important items and expect those items to stay safe. A waterproof backpack, like all our Builford bags, will just add an extra layer of security to that.

I’ll give an example. Recently, in one day, my Builford Classic backpack went through a heavy rain that not even my umbrella could protect it from and survived a trip to the Mud Festival outside of Seoul. It was mud-spattered and wet, but my things inside were safe, and after wiping off the mud, the backpack looks like this:

It look as good as new, or even better for the memories it now has. If the wax ever evaporates, I can always retouch it with the refinishing cream. Like most of our designs, the backpack is meant to redirect moisture off and away, and the natural waxing does the rest of the work. Even my phone, tucked in the front pocket and at the highest risk against the elements, was completely unharmed.

In case you might be worried that the focus on the waterproof backpack may be a cover for the lack of functionality in other areas, I can reassure that it’s just an extra, not a cover-up. There is more than enough inside space – I haven’t yet been able to completely “fill” the backpack, as I keep finding more space – and with the padded straps (which almost all models are equipped with), it is plenty comfortable to wear.

With a Builford backpack, there’s no need to worry about where you go and if your things will be safe and dry, because they will be. And that’s a good feeling!
